Have you ever wondered about the brick-sided house with the Woman’s Club sign on Acton’s Main Street? If so, you have come to the right place. This historic building is home to the Acton Woman’s Club, a group of active, fun-loving, and socially-involved people. Our website will give you insight into just who we are and what we are up to.
So, read on, and if you are interested in more information and/or coming to one of our monthly luncheon meetings as our guest, go to our Contact Page to RSVP so we can greet you properly. Also, we invite you to call a friend and come together!
You will enjoy a lovely luncheon, get the opportunity to see our house, join us for a quick business meeting, and finally be entertained by our monthly program. With our HEPA filters cleaning the air, events held at the house, with masks being optional, are very safe. We also welcome you to consider joining us as a member if our activities and charitable work feel like something you would find worthwhile and fun. Hoping to see you sometime!

Mission Statement
Our constitution states that our purpose shall be to:
- Maintain and preserve this historic building for the Town of Acton
- Promote friendship
- Encourage cultural, benevolent and civic activities of its members
- Remain non-political and non-partisan.
As you continue exploring this website, the many ways we fulfill these goals will become apparent. So, as we urged you previously, READ ON!
This year, 2025, the ACTON WOMAN’S CLUB celebrated its 110 Anniversary – 1915-2025. On October 23rd, we hosted a Gala 110 Anniversary Celebration. Held in the AWC Clubhouse, in addition to our members, there were many special guests from the town and state government, as well as jazz music from ABRHS playing in the background. The hors d’ oeuvres and wine, provided by local businesses, were so very good!

110 Years of History
By Dianne Hultstrom
The Acton WOMAN’S Club is very unique in several ways:
- Women bought, owned, and maintained a historic property for more than 100 years
- Stayed relevant with changing times.
- Evolved from a club for stay-at-home mothers to a more mature group of women who may be actively employed or retired from active and meaningful careers.
- Survived multiple renovations, including several kitchen updates, new roofs, oil burners, painting inside and out, floor refinishing, and adjustments to become handicapped-accessible.
- The AWC was the precursor of the League of Women Voters
- The AWC began a hot lunch program in Acton that is now a Federal Program
- The AWC was the first organization in town to offer a scholarship for high school graduates.
- The AWC started the square dance club, the Square Wheelers. (We danced with them some in the early 70s at the school)
- The AWC has offered ballroom dancing classes for preteens and teens for more than 75 years.
- The AWC is the oldest continuing organization in town.
- The AWC clubhouse has been available for rentals since the original renovation was completed about 100 years ago.
In reviewing the history, it appears that the AWC has hosted luncheons and educational programs, provided outreach to the community, and contributed through philanthropic efforts for most or all of our nearly 110 years. Bridge groups, book groups, museum-goers, and wine and dine-type activities have continued in popularity as well.
I’m sure the original AWC members would be thrilled to see the club continue to thrive, evolve, and integrate new members. From communicating through postcards and notes to phone calls (on that old crank phone on the wall) to cell phones, email, and meetings over ZOOM, We’ve come a LONG WAY!
